True story: one year in college my bio instructor let me take home a mantis egg case found while collecting field specimens. I stuck it in a jar with a few holes for air and promptly forgot about it, until one winter evening when I came home to two simultaneous, horrified realizations:
It took the combined efforts of five people almost two hours to retrieve several hundred pinky-nail sized baby mantids from all over my floor, dresser, and the wall behind it.
Then I didn’t have any food ready, so while I scrambled to get some fruit flies and, eventually, macerated turkey, I let them eat each other into attrition and then gave a few to friends. One of my friends named hers Zamboni Q. Murder.
My dad and I made this fishtank for my mum for Christmas a few years ago with dollhouse furniture. I thought it was pretty rad
That is all different kinds of awesome
This is very cool but, as the OP says in a later edit and follow up answers to asks, not recommended for anyone who doesn’t know what they’re doing with fishtanks. Making sure all that dollhouse stuff is aquarium-safe was probably a huge pain and there’s no gravel to help maintain the beneficial bacteria that keeps the tank’s ammonia levels down (and thus the fish alive).
Also, it doesn’t look as though the fish have anywhere to hide, but I’ve never kept goldfish, so maybe that’s not as important for them as for other species.
Anyway, the OP obviously does know what they’re doing and I’m not knocking, just adding/compiling additional info.

I am in all honesty going to be very deeply disappointed if Clyde doesn’t show up in a crochet cosy at some point next season.
