Outfits inspired by Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel - casual and dressy versions. Based on the costume design by Jamie McKelvie.

We all knew this would happen eventually. Click links for more commentary and my polyvore account, &c. I’m so excited for July!

Oh, and for some actualfax fanart, check out Project Rooftop’s Captain Marvel Fanart Friday!

[A Yukishiro Tomoe-inspired polyvore: white floral dress, purple pashmina, and demure accessories — other than a skull-topped umbrella and white plum perfume.]
Demure, but with hidden edges. (No pun intended.)

[A Himura-Kenshin inspired polyvore set: magenta short-sleeved crop button-down, white palazzo pants, thong sandals, straw purse and assorted accessories with geometric or floral motifs.]
Been in a Ruroken mood lately … I had a lot of fun with this set, translating 19th century traditional Japanese garb to 21st century Western! Ironically, as a manga fan I’m really not fond of anime Kenshin’s magenta gi, and yet the outfit just didn’t seem right without it.
Random fun fact — the ring is made of shibuichi, a copper/silver alloy used to ornament katana until the Meiji era.

Scarlet Witch polyvore, by skalja. Click link to like or look at my other sets!

I don’t know Scarlet Witch that well, but she’s always struck me as a refined, classy sort. It was fun putting together a boldly colored monochrome outfit without making it look clownish — hope I succeeded!
Art by David Mack, costume design by (I believe) Jack Kirby with later refinements by other artists over the years.

So yeah, I’ve been getting back into making nerdy polyvores, to the point where I’m debating whether I should make a separate tumblr for them or not. The pros: more organized, easier for people to follow/link to if they’re so inclined, easier for people to avoid if they’re not so inclined. The con: I don’t want to make something fun into an obligation, which is sort of how fuckyeahspiderwife has been feeling lately. Hmm.

Red carpet, redhead. by skalja.Filling a very old polyvore request by awyeahlongbox, here’s MJ on the red carpet. I tend to see her as gravitating towards the classics when she has the choice, and Elie Saab fits the bill.

Daredevil: Yellow by skalja
Sure, Daredevil’s original costume is a bit goofy, but there’s something about those retro boot buttons…
Also, you can kinda tell I gave up trying to layer the pieces in any kind of aesthetic fashion, but whatever.

Look, a polyvore that has nothing to do with comics! It’s still pretty nerdy, though.

oh man this is really cute and also um can I ask what brand that bag is???? I really want one exactly like it.

Thanks, I’m glad you like!
The bag is from Cambridge Satchel Company. I covet one horribly (either this bag or one of their awesome neon ones), but … yeah. Ebay has them significantly cheaper, but they’re still pretty expensive there! The plus side is that because the bag is essentially just a really nice contemporary execution of a vintage design, it shouldn’t be that hard to thrift or buy something similar at a lower price point.

Thank you! That’s actually pretty cheap (74 euros converts to about $100 aus dollars) which is a lot cheaper than I’ve seen in places considering the ones I’ve been looking at were like $200+.

It’s actually 85 euros (74 pounds), so a smidge more than that? But yeah, you’re right that they’re more expensive other places (hello, ASOS, looking at you!).

[A polyvore: a loose-fitting coral button-down, purple high-waisted skinny jeans, coral pumps, a stack of goldtone bracelets, a sky-blue newsboy cap and a gray tweed jacket.]
MJ’s Looks - Technicolor Androgyny by skalja
Art/outfit by Ron Frenz, from Amazing Spider-Man #271.
A challenge to myself, to see if I could make one my favorite bizarre outfits of MJ’s look contemporary and wearable — or at least, as wearable as anything else a model/actress would wear on the streets of a big city. I think it works on that level at least, because I see outfits fairly similar to this show up on street style blogs all the time these days (pretty much every item in the set is trendy right now except for the badge and maybe the cap).
ASM 271 came out when I was six months old. Fashion is cyclical.
(Also, yes, I do realize this outfit is only androgynous on the loosest technicalities.)
